It's like an Aston and an S6 had a baby, but the S6 maybe did a bit too much crack during the pregnancy.
There's some 5 series in there too.

Pretty derivative. But I like it.

My thought is it's a lot of money for a Hyundai.

I think it's pretty attractive actually. Like they're studying the marques they want to go after, and are working to produce a vehicle that might actually be cross-shopped.

I thought it was a post about the 508 before I read the title.

What I think? It looks decent but way too generic. When I reached the second picture I started to wonder how huge this thing must be. I don't really see the point of such a car.

So they stopped copying Mercedes and started copying Audi. Got it.

I've been going over the two pictures for ten minutes now and, aside from the emblem placement (and possibly the license plate location, but that's pretty well standard), I see no connection between the two cars.

Not bad. What's the rear headroom like, I wonder?

Besides the things you mentioned there's the shape of the grill and the headlight shape and placement. It's certainly not identical in detail, but with a quick glance it is quite similar.

The Pug's grille is an obvious trapezoid, where the Genesis has 6 distinct sides. More of a "shield" shape. The headlights are more Accord-like on the Pug, where the Genesis' is honestly more derivitive of the Infiniti M. Placement, there's really not a whole lot you can do about that ;)
My two cents, at least.

LOLZ LOOK GUISE IT COPYS EVRY1!
Seriously, I don't know why I read Hyundai/Kia threads anymore. It looks bland and derivative? So does everything else in this class . It looks fine, if it's got the same powertrain as the last gen then it's got a kickass 5.0L V8 and RWD. Is there something wrong with that?
Didn't think so

Can they just make Genesis an upscale brand all its own now? Might as well. NOTHING about that design says "Hyundai" to me.

They wanted to, but decided it would not be a very good idea.

You're looking at the details, and you're not wrong. However, when glancing over the first (small) picture on the Oppo FP you don't look at details initially, you're looking at the general shape. And that's where my Peugeot connection came from. Seeing these 508s every day helps too, yet there are weeks I don't see a Camry of any age and I've maybe seen 3 Infinitis in my life.

But it worked so well with the Mazda Millenia.
OH WAIT.
This does remind me of it. Upscale car, new badging, talks of splitting off to a new brand.....

I go back and forth on this.
I think they should, but then what becomes of Hyundai/Kia?
It's a weird family right now. Hyundai's are upscale Kia's, but Kia's are upscale now. Kia's are the "sportier" side of the Hyundai/Kia partnership and yet Hyundai is the one with the Genesis and Genesis Coupe.
I'd like to see an upscale shared family between Hyundai and Kia. Styling should lean more towards Kia style (maybe new corporate grill?). The line would include sports cars (Genesis Coupe, Kia GT 4 door), a midsize luxury car (Genesis sedan), a full size luxury car (Kia K900/Equus), and some kind of upscale SUV ( Kia Cross GT ).
The Hyundai and Kia themselves can focus on the affordable cars, topping the lines at the Azera and Cadenza.
